Targeting Audiences, anyone?

I love target, probably more than you honestly (lol) but that's not what we're discussing today. Do you know who your target audience is and why its important to have one? Before we deep dive into answering those questions, lets get a better understanding of what a target audience is (if you're unaware, otherwise consider todays epie as a refresher). We'll circle back to retrieve that response later.

A target audience is a group of people you want to reach with your brands product, service or message, they are the ones who are more likely to take action on what you're offering. The thing is you have to narrow down where they are and how to attract them to your brand, and this won't be hard to do with a few key pointers.

"Fellas how y'all doing? Ladies y'all alright? - Erykah Badu"

There are two types of audience and they either fall under a primary or secondary category. A primary audience has the characteristics of people who will buy a product (or whatever your brand may be, if you are not offering a product). The secondary audience may have different characteristics but are still very much interested in becoming apart of the crowd. Your secondary target audience can help you structure your marketing efforts. We'll take it a step further and really get into defining the specifics of your audience, this will need to be done with research of course.

The research method you want to use for this task, would be the qualitive vs. quantitative option. Qualitive research is less structured, you'll utilize smaller samples to get this information; some examples would be: in person interviews, focus groups, etc. Depending on your line of work you may have to tweak your approach for qualitive research, lets say you aren't able to meet in person; maybe try creating groups on Facebook for your audience to be apart of to get the necessary information or maybe do a few live sessions throughout the month on Instagram and TikTok. Which ever platform you decide to work in, be sure to engage with your audience; be yourself, it can be awkward at first but as time progress you'll feel like you're just having an open discussion with family/friends.

Quantitative research has more of a structured format, this route requires a larger sample; a few examples would be questionnaires, data, etc. With the questionnaires you could possible utilize your email subscriber list from those that have signed to be apart of your mailing list and to gain or should I say to add to the current list maybe send out a post (via social media of course) to accumulate more subscribers to that list. Possible take a poll to see who would be interested in participating for the questionnaire, with the polls you can usually see who's responded and from there request that they subscribe to receive emails from your brand. For the data portion, you could base this information from likes and demographics (gender, location, occupation and so forth).

"The aim of marketing is to know and understand the customer so well the product or service fits them and sells itself"

Now that you know how to define your audience, we're unpinning the previous questions that were asked earlier (lol). So, do you know who your target audience is and if not; are you more prepared to locate them? I hope so, because not only will this benefit your brand but I believe you'll feel more enthused to provide whatever you may offer to your audience with a new approach.

Any who, I feel got a little boost from today's epie myself; oh by the way for those who aren't sure what "epie" means, it's short for episode. Till next time, enjoy your week and stay hydrated! Chat soon =)
