Last week we touched on data-based advertising, which we learned is a key component in creating your campaigns. This week's topic kind of ties together with what we discussed. The topic at hand is meta pixel; we're going to explore the ins and outs of how it functions and its usefulness for your business. But before we dive in headfirst, I'm sure you're probably a bit confused about what meta pixel is. For those of you who were around during the MySpace era (lol, and it may still be a thing, I just know it's not a social platform I utilize), I'm sure you remember designing your page to your liking; that design process involved coding, and that's pretty much what meta pixel is.
Meta Pixel is an analytical tool that allows you to track your website visitors activities. It is a piece of code that helps identify Facebook and Instagram users and see how they interacted with the content on your website (page views, product views, adding to cart, starting checkout, purchases, etc). Like data-based advertising, this information can be utilized to locate customers with ads based on interests, preferences, and their behavior online. It also assists with tracing your ads performance. As stated earlier, meta pixel can cause a bit of confusion; how can something so small as a code assist with your business, outside of being added in the background? Well, for starters, that small assistant of yours is used for online advertising.

A 1x1 graphic, commonly known as a tracking pixel, plays a crucial role in modern digital marketing strategies. When a customer visits your website, this tiny element sparks, initiating a process that sends valuable information to platforms like Facebook. This data transmission is essential for businesses to understand their audience better and tailor their marketing efforts effectively. The tracking pixel captures various activities performed by the visitor while browsing your site, such as the pages they view, the products they show interest in, and the actions they take.
Based on research from Facebook's Business Help Center, a pixel is utilized to ensure that your ads are viewed by the right people, which, in turn, brings in more sales and measures ad results. Meta Pixel gives your business the ability to advertise your product and/or service to prospective customers who have already browsed your website. This method is called re-targeting, also known as re-marketing. The pixel helps you locate new customers who have similar interests or characteristics to your actual customers. Lastly, the pixel can assist with tracing the activity of people after they have seen or interacted with your ad.
